WHAT IS CAMP OAKRIDGE? Camp Oakridge is a campground that was established to provide our Pioneer groups a place to practice the skills that are learned while in the Pioneers.
WHO OWNS CAMP OAKRIDGE? Eight WELS Churches in South Eastern WI and North Eastern IL support the operation and supply members to the Board of Directors for the camp. As a member of one of these churches First Evangelical Lutheran Church is a part owner. The Board of Directors oversee the operation of the camp. The operation of Camp Oakridge is done completely with volunteers. No salaries are paid.
THE MEMBERS CHURCHES ARE: First Evangelical - Racine Epiphany - Racine Bethany - Kenosha St. John's - Slades Corners Peace - Wilmot Immanual - Waukegan St. John's - Burlington
WHO USES CAMP OAKRIDGE? Over the years Camp Oakridge's primary mission has been and still continues to be to serve the Pioneer Groups from our and other congregations. However many families have become regular users of Camp Oakridge. The increased use of the camp has provided a wondrful Christian atmosphere for campers to enjoy and the opportunity to meet others from different congregatons. There is also Saturday night services held on Memorial Day and Labor Day Weekends.
WHEN CAN I USE CAMP OAKRIDGE? Camp Oakridge opens every year around April 25th and remains open until October 30th. For those who enjoy winter camping the camp is open but no electricity or running water is available.
WHAT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED? There is a bathhouse with flush toilets and showers. At the campsites there is electricity and running water. The sites are all group sites and sharing the water and electrical hookups is expected.
There is no janitorial service at camp, so expect to clean the washrooms for yourself and we ask that you leave them clean when you leave. There is also a dump station near the bathhouse for campers with RVs.
There is a large building/ pavilion available for group functions. Please check with your Church's Directors for reserving the building for your group.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GO TO CAMP OAKRIDGE? Contact your director from your church. He can provide you with directions to the camp, keys, rules of the camp, (yes we have a few rules) and written instructions on how to open the camp and how to close the camp if you have never been there.
WHAT DOES CAMPING COST? NOTHING. It's that simple, Free Will donations are gretefully accepted. (We do have our costs.)
